VIRTUAL COMICS SCHOOL FAQ

This FAQ will hopefully answer most of your questions. Should you have any additional questions, please send an email to: vcs[at]virtual-graphics.ch

Q: Who can apply for the VIRTUAL COMICS SCHOOL?
A: Everyone worldwide over 18 years old with an internet connection. People under 18 years of age only with a signature of their parents or legal guardian.

Q: What are the technical requirements to participate?
A: At the very least you will need a functional computer, an internet connection and a Skype account for the webinars. Ideally you will also have access to a scanner, editing software (Adobe Creative Suite) as well as a graphics tablet (Wacom). Previous comic book knowledge is not necessary but could be an advantage.

Q: How much time do I need to invest in to the classes?
A: No school program can make a genius out of you. Only you can do that. The effort you will be putting into the assignments will depend on your own ambition. Judging from our experience, we estimated the approximate effort you should be putting into each assignment. But you’re more than welcome to work on your work as long as you see fit.

Q: What can I expect after I applied for a program?
A: After the application and payment has been received, you will receive a welcoming package and your gift (digital copy of the 300-page graphic novel ENDLESS SKY) as well as a schedule for the whole course. On this date the classes will officially begin. At this point the dates of the webinars can be scheduled.

Q: What is a webinar?

A: A webinar is a course that will be conducted over the internet, in our case over Skype and Join.me. These webinars are one-on-one. In these sessions we will discuss your assignments in greater depth and I will answer any questions you might have.

Q: How are the lessons presented?
A: The lessons are being presented in the PDF-format. All important information is in those documents and not otherwise available. At the end of the course you will receive all lessons as an e-book.

Q: What do I receive at the end of a program?
A: That depends on the course you completed. All participants will receive a diploma (non-accredited) to confirm that the respective course has been completed (as PDF or by mail). Participants in the BC02 or higher will see their works with their permission published in a bi-annual publication and online on ZAMPANO ONLINE. Details of the legal and copyright situation will be explained during the course. Participants of the Masterclass will have additional publication possibilities.

Q: How are the assignments and corrections exchanged?
A: After the application you will receive access to our server where you can upload your work. You can also send us your completed assignments by email. The assignments will be further discussed in the Skype and Join.me webinars in more depth.

Q: Am I getting the art supplies from you or do I need to organize them myself?
A: You are responsible for your own art supplies. We will give you tips as to what supplies to get. Also we don’t want to limit your creativity, so many different styles are encouraged which need different supplies. The cost for the art supplies are in the neighborhood of £25/$30. About double for the Masterclass.

Q: How can I pay?
A. We accept payments for the courses either in full or in monthly payments by Paypal or transfer. Also accepted for international payments are Western Union and Moneygram. No checks are accepted. Participants in Switzerland can also pay by invoice.

Q: Can I cancel a course I already started?
A: An application to our courses is binding. Cancellation is only possible with an urgent reason. A reason would be an unforeseen illness or other hardship. In a case like that, the school needs to be notified at least 14 days before the expected leave and the already paid but not used fee will be refunded by the payment method used by the applicant.

Q: What if I’m not happy with the classes?
A: Although we believe that our methods are sound and tested, there are no doubt situations were a participant is overburdened or under-challenged. In a case like this we will try to mediate the situation in a direct talk. One possiblity is the suggestion to participate in a different course that is more to the student’s liking.
